Reading and Workshop: March 5 and 6

March 6th, 2010

Dr. Bruce Meyer

Don’t miss two opportunities to see Dr. Bruce Meyer in March. Bruce Meyer is an accomplished author, poet, lecturer and broadcaster. His CBC radio series with Michael Enright on the Great Books has become an audio bestseller.  He is the author thirty books or poetry and non-fiction, including Mesopotamia, Heroes and the national best seller, The Golden Thread. He is an English professor at Georgian College, Barrie, where he teaches for Laurentian University. He is currently a finalist in TVO’s “Best Lecturer” competition.

Bruce Meyer will give a public lecture on the topic “What Makes Great Literature” on Friday, March 5 at 7 p.m. at the ATAC Building at Lakehead University.

Bruce will also give a NOWW writing workshop on “Making Your Writing More Visual” on Saturday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at Waverley Resource Library. Writing is often a matter of making words into pictures in readers’ minds. This workshop looks at how to make your writing more visual and use images more effectively in your poetry, fiction or non-fiction. Also included will be a discussion of how image and narrative intertwine.

Both events are free and open to the public. Events sponsored by Bookends Book Club, the Writers Union of Canada, The Canada Council for the Arts, Northwestern Ontario Writers Workshop and the Ontario Arts Council.
