Reading: Word Sports

September 22nd, 2009

Amazing feats, breathtaking adventures, literary teams, and some tongue-twisting tricks will make the first reading of this season a whirlwind of winning word sports!

Start thinking of some wild and wacky tongue twisters to share at our open mic section of the program. Don’t worry, poets - the next reading in October will be totally poetic, so save your poems for October 20th.

Love those tongue twisters but need some inspiration? Here is a short guide to the tortured world of the twisted tongue.

Tongue Twister Definition: a sequence of words which is difficult to recite quickly because of alliteration or use of similar sounds.

Examples: Big black bug bit a big black bear. But where is the big black bear that the big black bug bit?

Betty bought butter but the butter was bitter, so Betty bought better butter to make the bitter butter better.

Any noise annoys an oyster but a noisy noise annoys an oyster more.

If two witches were watching two watches, which witch would watch which watch?

Bring a friend!

Readings are at 7 p.m. in the Fireside Room of the Brodie Resource Library, 216 S. Brodie Street, Thunder Bay.
